...Aradia.  You grinned, trying to hide any of your previous apprehension at visiting your secret crush's hive.

"Hi Aradia," you say raising a hand and giving a tiny wave.  "Can I come in?"

The handsome burgundy-blooded he-troll gave a small smile as he nodded to you in greeting.

"Hey, ______.  I was wondering when you'd get here."  He took a step back and opened the door a bit wider for you to come inside, and you gladly entered, giving him a smile and a small nod as you slipped past him into the hive.

"Yeah, sorry about that.  I kinda lost track of the time.  But I'm here now."  You turned to look at him as he closed and locked the door before turning back to you.  You tilted your head.  "What exactly did you invite me over here for, Aradia?"

The male grinned, his pearly white fangs catching a little of the dim light in the entryway to his hive.  "Well," he began, "I was thinking that maybe since you were so helpful to me when my hive was destroyed and I was injured, maybe you'd like to help me with something else."

You frowned.  Aradia was the kind of troll who only ever asked for help if the situation was dire.  But looking at him now, you didn't get the sense that anything was the matter.  In fact, he seemed to be in a slightly more cheerful mood than usual. Aradia noticed your somewhat pensive look and gave a soft chuckle, tilting his head and rolling his eyes a little.

"Don't worry, it's not anything bad.  I promise," he said, walking a ways past you into his hive before pausing and looking back at you, quirking a brow as if he was questioning why you weren't following him.  "Well," he asked, "aren't you coming?"

"Huh?  Oh!  Yeah!"  You blinked quickly hurried to his side and he continued on again, a strange smile on his face as he went.  It was almost as if he knew something you didn't.  What has he got planned?  You lightly narrowed your eyes as you continued to study his face while the two of you walked, and as a result you almost ran smack into a closed door that he'd been leading you to.  In fact, you would have continued to do so, if Aradia hadn't looked back over at you and quickly wrapped an arm around your waist, pulling you back and keeping you from smacking into the wood.

"Careful there, ______!  Don't want you hurting that pretty face of yours," he said, smiling softly at you while you began to break into the beginnings of a bright red blush.  You stuttered a bit before awkwardly putting a hand on his chest and gently pushing back, signalling you wanted him to release you, which, to be honest, you didn't really . . . but you also didn't want to faint just from having physical contact with the man.

What you didn't notice was the tiny frown of disappointment that you elicited from the redblood when you freed yourself.  He chose instead to play it off before you could catch his look and smiled again, reaching for the door handle and twisting it open, holding it for you.  "Ladies first," he offered with a gentlemanly bow.  You shyly brushed some hair behind your ear and gave a small, embarrassed smile as you nodded and went past him inside.

"Thanks."

"Yeah, of course," he murmured back, going inside after you, allowing the door to slowly shut behind the both of you.  Inside, it was dark, and you couldn't see much aside from a little light flooding under the now closed door.  "Aradia?  What're we doing in here?"

"You'll see," he chimed in a low voice.  You started getting flustered again, and you felt your heart beating a little faster.  Just what exactly had this troll planned for the two of you that had to take place in a dark room?  Your mind immediately went to some of the dirtiest possibilities imaginable, and you were thankful for the darkness shielding your red face from your friend, but you couldn't help wishing that maybe you two would do something along those lines.  You bit your lip a little and for a moment, forgot that you had even asked him any questions about what you both would be doing until he suddenly spoke up from your left.

"Ah!  Here's that switch."  A click was heard as he flicked on the lights, and suddenly row after row of dim light came to life overhead, first coming on above you before stretching to the other end of the large room.  What was this exactly?  You didn't remember helping him build this.

"Hey, Aradia?  What is this place?"

"Haha, it's my auditorium!  See?"  As the lights fully came on, they all revealed a large room with rows of movie theater-style seating facing a brand new-looking shiny wood stage with large, red curtains drawn over it, hiding the rest of the platform from view.  "Anyway, this is what we'll be doing.  Surprise!" he exclaimed happily, beaming at you with his arms wide open.

You just looked at him for a moment, still not quite getting what was happening.  "Uh . . . surprise?  Are . . . we going to watch something?" you asked, wondering if he already had something set up behind the curtains.

He laughed a little and shook his head, his arms returning to his sides.  "What?  No.  Silly, you and I will be up on stage!"

"H-huh?  Wait, why?  Are . . . are we performing for someone?"  Your eyes widened and you looked around a little nervously as if you were searching out some hidden audience members among the rows of seats.

Again, Aradia grinned and laughed a little.  "Hey, calm down!  No, it's just going to be you and me in here.  You see, I've been paying close attention to the upcoming plays and auditions being held in the nearest troll town, and I've been wanting to try out for ages!  I built this place to practice--to get used to being around a set up like this.  I mean, of course it'll be different with the rows filled up with trolls, but I made do."  He was rambling a little now, and he shook his head and got back to the point, fixing his calm, red eyes on you again.  "Anyway, what I wanted to know is if you would help me practice my lines?  I've got a few copies of the script here for us to use."

You just stared at him for a moment, mouth agape.  You knew that Aradia was pretty interested in the arts and performing and all, and you would occasionally spend time at his hive and watch different recordings of plays and such with him in his living room over a bowl of popcorn.  But actually performing on a stage?  It just so happened that you had a little thing called stage fright, and even though there wasn't another soul around apart from you both, you were really hesitant to just get up on a stage and start acting.  What if he made fun of you . . . ?  Okay, that probably wouldn't happen--he was too nice.  But you really didn't want to make a fool of yourself!  You had little to absolutely no experience acting or anything like that.  The most you ever did was sing a little when you were alone, and once before the game you'd tried your hand at voice acting for a friend's comic dubbing, but they gave up and it never went anywhere.

Aradia tilted his head at you as you just stared nervously back.  "Um, are you okay?"

"Y-yeah . . . maybe?  I . . . I don't want to, I mean, I'm not sure that I can-"

"Hey," he said in a calming tone, putting a gentle, but firm hand on your arm.  "Listen, I know that you've got some issues about performing in front of others, but it's just me.  And I promise not to make fun of you.  If anything, you could use this as an opportunity to maybe get over your fears," he reasoned, before allowing you a chance to reply.

"Uh . . . well . . . I," you hesitated again, but looking at him, and seeing how gentle and reassuring his gaze was as he leaned a little over to make level eye contact with you, you couldn't help but agree.  "I . .  okay?"

He instantly broke into another wide, toothy grin.  "Excellent!  Don't worry, you'll have fun!  I promise," he vowed solemnly.  You nodded and were about to say something when he surprised you by reaching down and taking your hand, leading you around the side of the auditorium to the stairs on the end of the stage.  Your eyes widened, and yes, your blush was back.  You tried to take your mind off of the contact, but only increased the strength of your grip on his hand.  What you didn't know was that he noticed, and he was smiling silently to himself, a tiny blush of his own spreading across his cheeks.

You both made your way up onto the stage floor, your shoes echoing as you walked across to the end of the curtain.  A small gap was left, revealing the darkness behind the curtains.  Aradia paused and looked back at you.  "Alright.  I'm going to go stage left and dim the lights, turning on the ones above us.  Then I'll move the curtains and get the scripts.  Just go stand center stage and wait for me, alright?"

"Yeah, you got," you murmured, meeting his gaze a little shyly before letting your hand slip from his, walking to the place he'd told you to to wait for him to get things ready for your practice.

~

Aradia went around to the side stage and went to the control panels, flipping switches and turning dials before grabbing the ropes and pulling, pulling the curtains open.  He glanced back to where you were as he worked.  You were rocking back and forth on your heels, hands clasped in front of you as you waited.  You still looked a little nervous, and were frowning a bit as you gazed out over the rows of chairs, biting your lip a little.  He sighed through his nose a bit and tied the ropes again, securing them before leaning on the wall a little.

He'd been mulling over inviting you to do something like this with him for awhile now, he'd just had a rather difficult time mustering the courage.  Sure, he could perform in front of hundreds of others without giving it a single thought, he could sing with the best of them, all were moved by the speeches he gave center stage in the spotlight.  But talking to you . . . the girl of his dreams?  Well, he might as well be you in front of the crowds.  He sighed a little.  You weren't looking to happy . . . maybe he was pushing you a little too much?  He thought for a second, pushing his mouth to one side.  No . . . no, everything would go fine.  He just had to help you boost your confidence, help you relax, and you'd do just fine, great even!

He smiled to himself, pushing off of the wall.  Yeah, everything's going to be fine!  I'll just take it slow and be patient with her.  She'll have fun tonight, I swear it!  And with that, the he-troll turned around to grab up a couple of copies of the script before returning to where you were currently waiting for him.

~

You sighed a little, ceasing with your rocking as you brought a hand up to rub your arm.  Oh come on, get a hold of yourself.  There's no one even here.  You can do this . . . maybe . . . maybe it'll impress Aradia if you do a good job?  Well, you felt yourself perk up a little at the thought of leaving a good impression on him.  Maybe then he'd invite you over more often to work on auditions?  Yeah!  If that wasn't something to work for, then you didn't know what was!

The sound of his returning footsteps caught your attention, and you brought your gaze back to the Aries as he made his way across the stage, face pointed down at the scripts he was turning over in his hands.  For a moment you forgot where you were as you watched him get closer, striding over to you without a single care in the world.  He was so confident without even trying.  Your boost of confidence waned a little and you slightly hunched your shoulders, fiddling with your fingers a little as you went back to biting your lip.

When he got up to you he slowed and looked up, handing you a stapled packet of paper, his soft smile back as he faced you once more.  "Alright, ______.  Here's your copy.  We're going to be skipping ahead a little, though, so instead of starting on page one, we'll be on page twenty-three."

"Oh?  What scene is that?" you asked quietly and a bit curiously.

He paused a little, and as you took the papers and flipped to the right scene, he was able to get away with blushing without you noticing.  "It's . . . it's the romance scene."

You froze and looked back up at him and for a moment, you met each other's gaze.  But the moment ended a second later as he swallowed and glanced away from you, awkwardly flipping through his own document to the right page.  "I-I've been going over the parts prior to this one a lot, but I haven't had a chance to practice this one at all, only read over the lines.  And for things like this, it's best to have at least one other person to practice with . . . so yeah."

His answer, admittedly, caused you to feel a twinge of disappointment in your chest.  He'd only invited you over because he needed an extra partner?  Nothing else . . . ?  No, that wasn't true.  He'd said so himself that he wanted you here instead of anyone else because he thought you were the perfect person for the job!  Alright, well those weren't his exact words, but it's kind of what he meant when he had chosen you since you'd been the most help to him in the past.

You pushed away your doubts and nodded to him.  "Well, alright then.  Uh . . . should you start?"

He seemed to relax slightly as some of the awkwardness faded away.  He chuckled softly.  "Actually ______, you're supposed to start the scene.  See?  It's the very first line."

You looked down in surprise and sure enough, there was the part of the actress, opening the scene with dialogue after a lengthy and detailed set of stage directions in parenthesis.  You swallowed a little, feeling a little bit unsure for a moment if you could do this.  "U-uh . . ." your voice trailed off, and you thought you wouldn't be able to breathe right when you felt a comforting hand on your shoulder.  Glancing up over your dialogue, you saw Aradia looking at you again.

"Come on, I know you've got this," he said in encouragement.  Your eyes widened a little.  He really believed in you!  You looked at the papers once more, eyes slightly narrowing as you studied the lines again and you nodded once before taking a step back, putting a hand over your heart as was called for in the notes.  Aradia took his hand off and watched in slight surprise as you began boldly.

"Oh!  Tis the day!  Tis the very day of my and my love's betrothal!  Hark, are those the cries of doves and lovebirds that I hear, cutting through the bracing dawn air?  Oh, I do think that my heart is a flutter with the blessed feelings of eager, giddy joy and love, and my tender organ flies with those early birds this fine morning!  Oh, what a truly happy day!" you exclaimed.  You paused, putting a hand to your ear.  "But what is this?  That is not a bird song nor even a tweeting or beating of wings!  Has a cat entered my garden and is now ascending the side of my home with aid of my father's lattice?  No, tis too big!  Oh dear me!  It is not beast, but troll!  A troll makes his way towards my room!  Oh no, whatever shall I do?  I am home alone--my parents gone to prepare the festivities following the ceremonies!  And my good lady maid is seeing to the feast and decorum!  Oh no, oh no, oh no!  Someone, please come to my aid!  I cannot bear to think what might befall me!  And this of all days, too . . ." you said with conviction.  You paused to catch your breath, holding the back of your hand dramatically over your forehead as if in woe, but the dialogue following, the part where Aradia was supposed to come in, never left his lips.

You awkwardly waited there with your eyes closed before risking a peek from behind your hand.  Glancing at him, you saw his eyes were huge and his mouth was gaping open at you in shock and awe.  You immediately dropped your hand and nervously clutched the packet in your now shaking fingers.  "U-uh . . . d-did I do something wrong?" you squeaked out.  Oh God . . . you'd just made a huge fool of yourself, you knew it.  So much for impressing him.  Well, might as well bolt off stage now, apologizing profusely in order to save the last bit of your dignity.

But right as you were about to say something, Aradia leaped and landed in front of you, his shoes slapping the wooden stage in front of you with a might CLAP causing you to jump back with a start.  But instead of some mean teasing, or pitying look, he looked immensely happy and even . . . excited?  His eyes were bright and cheerful, and he grinned, holding his arms out open.  "Tis I, my lady!" he declared.  "Your love!  I have arrived at long last after traveling all day and all night and all day and all night again to reach you!  I could not bear the wait of the hour of our wedding, and I have not rested--not one wink--in order to see you as soon as was possible!  I would have been here, standing in front of you as I am now, sooner if not for my inability to fly!  Though I assure you, my heart soared far ahead of me, racing past clouds and the quick birds of prey in order to greet you this happy morning!"

You flushed a little at his impressive delivery of lines, and stared up at him for a moment.  When you didn't reply after a short moment, he glanced down to your script and nodded for you to go on.  Your eyes widened and you almost dropped the script as you rushedly fumbled with it.  "O-oh!  Uh," your eyes scanned the print before you found your lines and began again, eyes moving over it as you read while periodically looking up at him.  "My love!  Thank the Great One!  I had thought a ruffian had known everyone was away and he'd come to take me with him!  Blessed be your devotion!  I myself have been unable to sleep, as well!  I've been awaiting our special day for surely what feels like the moment of my first breath!"

Aradia smiled and stepped towards you again, not even looking at the script as he took your hands in his, looking at you with warm, intense eyes.  "Oh my dear.  It warms me ever so much to know that relaxation is as illusive to you as it has been to me!  But can no one blame us?  It is more obvious than the great trees in the woods, and doubly more obvious than the fruit growing in your family's lovely orchard that our love is a thing that was depicted in the stars!  Many a night I have stayed awake and watched them dance around one another as they elatedly and gaily celebrated this very day--the day we would give ourselves to each other once and for all!  They sing, and their song reaches down from the heavens in the form of whispering breezes through the leaves!  Could there be another couple more perfect than we?"  His gaze softened and he leaned his face a little closer to yours.

You had to swallow again, but didn't wait nearly as long as you quickly looked at your script again, freeing one of your hands.  "No!  There never could be, nor could there ever have been!  As you've said, our love was destiny--foretold by the stars and gods themselves!  Who else can say the same?" you said passionately, taking up both of his hands again as you smiled lovingly up at him.  Though you didn't have to act that part out.

He sighed quietly and happily, his voice almost lower now.  "Not any couple, not a single one could claim to love one another as we do.  My sweet, I know it is not customary, and I beg your forgiveness, though I do not believe that you would ever withhold it from me, but I had to be here now.  I do not wish to miss a single moment that I could spend in your radiant company."

You could have almost swooned right then and there, but made yourself continue.  Sure, it might have all been in the script--but you liked where this was going.  "Then stay, do not leave me.  We can ready ourselves together here, and we shall enter the church in one another's embrace, and everyone will see just how deeply we care for one another."

"Then it is settled . . . but my dear sweet lady love, whatever shall we do before the sacred hour?  We have plenty of time to ready ourselves, nearly half a day as we will be joined after the sun is at its highest.  What may we occupy our time with until then?  If there is nothing you can suggest, then I shall be content to look into your eyes."

You bit your lip a little, looking back at your lines to try and take some of your intense focus off of your partner.  Aradia was so fantastic and convincing at this, and you were sure that he could feel the heat radiating off of your creeping blush.  "Oh my dear, I have spent one too many a night yearning to be in your presence that I looked into my vanity mirror, imagining your face their instead of my own, and I became lost in your eyes, only to have my blissful dream broken each time by my lady in waiting.  May we not exchange, at least, a small show of our love?"

As soon as the words left your lips your heart almost stopped beating.  Just what was this leading to?  You guessed that you would find out, so you turned your attention back to Aradia who by now was no longer reading off of his lines, and instead was looking at you, eyes swimming with something strange.  It was a look you'd only seen a handful of times before, and you couldn't help but feel faint right then and there.

He parted his lips a little, leaning in closer.  "Why . . . I do believe I know what you mean.  And I wish for it to, my dear, come into my embrace," he whispered huskily.

You shook a little, feeling very hot.  The palms of your hands were sweating you bet, except you couldn't even feel them anymore.  You didn't even feel like you were touching the ground.  You were somewhere else entirely.  You took a breath and leaned in as well, forgetting your own script as you'd taken the time before to quickly read over your next lines. "Yes, love.  Hold me close to your heart, and I'll hold you close to mine."

"Good.  Then I shall waste not a moment more . . . to give you . . . this," he murmured so softly that you almost missed it as his face neared yours, his eyes sliding slowly closed as his arms crept around your body, holding you against him.  "My token of sweet affection-" he breathed before tilting his head and, suddenly, pressed his lips to yours.

You felt your heart leap into your throat and almost exploded at the contact of both of your lips.  But instead of panicking or freaking out, you held him tightly back, forgetting about your script once and for all as it slipped from your hand and you moved a hand to the back of his head, kissing him deeply, your eyes closed.

He moaned a little in surprise before squeezing his eyes shut tighter, dropping his own script behind you as he held you tighter, running his hands up and down your back, melding his lips with yours, his cheeks their brilliant dark red.  He continued kissing you passionately before breaking away and panting, but immediately dove back in, pushing his mouth against yours, his tongue now coming out to run over your lips.

You sighed in satisfaction and opened up for him to enter.  He quickly took the chance and dipped his tongue in your mouth, swirling it around a bit, wrapping your tongue greedily with his own, moaning softly to you, making you blush even brighter.  You tilted your head the other way and pushed with your tongue back, tiny moans of your own escaping your lips as you clung to him.

You both continued this way for quite a bit before you both began to feel the building pressure in your heads as a result of not getting enough oxygen, and finally broke apart for good.  Your body was warm all over as you panted quietly and let your eyes flutter open the same moment he opened his.  You both stared speechlessly at one another for what felt like an eternity.

He was the first one to break the silence.  ". . . Wow," he breathed, looking dazed.

"Yeah," you sighed back.

"You . . . you're amazing, ______."

"O-oh, thank you Aradia.  But, you were even better than I was-" you argued modestly in a quiet voice before he put a clawed finger to your lips.

"No . . . ______, I meant you.  You're so, so incredible!  I can't even put it into words. . ."

You looked at him a moment, your heart beginning to speed up again.  "H-huh?"

He sighed a little, resting his forehead against yours, keeping you in his hold.  "______, I need to tell you.  It's now or never, though you might already know."  He took a breath and met your gaze once more.  "I . . . ever since I first saw you, I couldn't help but be awed by you.  You are an amazing, caring, beautiful girl.  I just can't be around you enough.  You put stars in my head and flutterbeasts in my stomach and I just had to tell you . . ." he trailed off and for a moment you couldn't breathe as you waited for him to finish.  "______ . . . I am . . . I am so very flushed for you."

You were speechless.  This was the greatest news you'd ever heard!  The troll you loved more than anything or anyone else in existence just pledged his love to you in possibly one of the most romantic settings ever!  It was like something from a movie or a book, and you were still having a hard time believing that this was really happening to you.  You stared back and shook your head a little.  "Oh my God . . . Aradia . . . I . . . I love you, too.  I have for  . . . well, it seems like forever!  I just could never tell you, you know?  I didn't think you thought more of me than a friend."  You bit your lip and hung your head.

He lifted your chin with gentle fingers, pointing you to look at him once more.  "Then that makes two of us . . . this was my reason for inviting you over tonight.  I just had to tell you, but didn't feel confident enough to do it any other way than through the use of a play."

You looked at him a little surprised to know that such a laid back and confident he-troll would have to resort to these tactics, but you had absolutely no complaints.  "Wow . . . wait."  You frowned and suddenly looked seriously up at him.  "Aradia . . . you said you were auditioning for a play, but everything in that script . . . wasn't even related to troll culture.  It seemed like it was made by, well, humans.  Do trolls even have any of our plays?"

He flushed a little at your catching on and let out a little giggle.  "Well, you got me ______.  You see, I've been studying up a lot, preparing for this.  I kind of, uh, wrote my own play?"  He grinned, ears flicking back.

You gasped and for a moment he was worried he did something wrong by admitting that, but instead of flipping out on him, you took his face in your hands and smiled brilliantly up at him.  "Aradia!  That's so romantic!  Oh my gosh, it was perfect and amazing and wow!  You did that all by yourself!?"

"Well, in writing, yes.  But you're the one who helped me act it out . . . I didn't even practice it before now.  Heck, I didn't even write out the first twenty-two pages!  They're just random keyboard mash," he chuckled.

You laughed back.  "Really?  Wow.  That's too bad, I would have liked to know how they both met or something."

He tilted his head, grinning.  "Well, perhaps I could work on that for you, then."  He paused and frowned a little, looking a bit shyly down.  "Um, ______?"

You frowned back, wondering why his mood suddenly changed.  "Aradia?" you asked a bit concerned.

He took a breath and looked up at you.  "Oh Gog . . . please don't laugh at me, but . . . will . . . what I'm trying to ask is . . ."  He took another breath, slowly exhaling.  "______, will you please be my matesprit?"

You could have screamed from the roof tops right now!  "Yes!" you shouted without any kind of hesitation.

His eyes widened.  "Really!?"

"Yes, really!"

"REALLY!?" he shouted excitedly.

"Oh my God, YES you lovable, adorable dummy!  Yes, I'll be your matesprit!  I love you, Aradia!"

He was too happy for words, and instead lifted you off of the stage and hugged you, twirling you around while giving excited "thank yous" as he spun you around, littering your face with small, quick kisses.  You laughed happily and let him keep spinning you before you both stopped, and, taking hands, left to run around and maybe go out for a night on the nearest troll town to celebrate the occasion.

Left behind on the stage were the scripts, one of which had fallen open.  It was flipped to the last page, where the following text was printed:  (The happy couple exchanges I love yous, spins, and exits stage left, the lead actor getting the girl.)

HOLY CRIPES ALMIGHTY, DO YOU GUYS KNOW WHEN I STARTED THIS FIC?  I started it back in FEBRUARY.  How in the HELL were you all able to wait this long?!  Jesus Christ.  I love you guys so much, for real.  Hopefully it's everything you were hoping it would be?  I mean, I took a lot of liberties with this particular fanfic.  There wasn't a lot of reference for me to use since we don't know much about Aradia's life before her death and the beginning of the game, so I dunno . . . I just felt that her male counterpart would be more of an artsy guy?  I hope that that's okay.  Please leave feedback, and as always, keep a lookout for more fics I write!  I'll be working on the Feferi one after this.
Thanks, guys <3

>/////< Holy fuck my patron troll is romantic, like holy shit. This is such a good fanfiction. I don't quite like that it was Male!Aradia, but I'm okay with it. And an award goes to you, for having some of the best written Homestuck fanfictions I've ever read!
